Road marking glass beads are manufactured from glass sand and recycled glass materials. Through high-temperature melting processes, these materials form small spherical glass beads that appear colorless and transparent under microscopic examination, with diameters ranging from 75 to 1400 microns. The primary production method for reflective glass beads is the flame floating process.

These glass beads serve two main functions in road marking applications: as premixed materials to ensure continuous reflectivity throughout the marking's lifespan, and as surface-applied materials during construction to provide immediate reflective properties.

Glass beads function as high-performance organic materials that minimize surface dust adsorption from the atmosphere. The inclusion of specific coupling agents enhances cohesion between beads and coatings, preventing bead sinking due to flotation characteristics. When applied to surface coatings, the beads float to maximize surface area exposure, increasing utilization efficiency by over 30%. Reflective glass beads have become indispensable safety components in road marking products.
